.....yesterday (Monday) with 8knots of breeze in the Solent, going upwind at 10 knots through the water?? The skipper said she could sail 2knots faster than the wind up to 12knots. During my turn on the helm we went down wind flying the asymmetric and I only managed 9knots STW with 9knots of wind, but it was still fun!

Clue - its a deep keeled monohull.

I was invited as a late replacement on a 'spectator boat', not racing.

Got seriously soaked in the afternoon though - even the Chablis was diluted !

I am keeping my fingers crossed that you might say a Bavaria Match 35 just like the one I ordered last week?

But maybe not, I got 6 knots on a close reach in 9knots true during a test sail.

Do I remember she had a bit of an accident a couple of year ago, and was brought back to Southampton Yacht services for repair by cargo ship, I think they extended it by 'x' feet too.

YEP - It was a superb day out - the boat sails like a dream and the hospitality of very high quality. Having seen the price, it is actually very good value compared to other corporate bashes, such as international rugby or tennis at Wimbledon.

Back to the sailing, the crew are very professional and despite charging around the Solent at relatively high speed in confined spaces, the skipper was more than conscious of his responsibilities to colregs and racing fleets alike. We were very careful not to cause any problems.

I was struck with awe for at least the first hour at the way she takes off in such light airs - anything from 4 knots of wind upwards.

Certainly a rare opportunity and a day to remember for some time to come.

What a brilliant day you must have had. There's not a hint of jealousy at all /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It must be awesome to get the chance to sail a boat most of us can only read about ( and still am)

Lucky, lucky bugger.

Fantastic. I've seen her a couple of times at Ocean Village and she passed us cruising up Southampton Water last weekend. Quite a boat!
