hi all anyone give me an idea which type of steering is in my fjord daycruiser 21ft with a 1969 volvo penta aq105/100 as far as i know it's the original which maybe you have seen im having trouble with i really am now getting frustrated with doing everything on this boat myself . anyway incase i can get my steering fixed (it is sticking and wont turn starboard direction) so i would like to know the options to get a new one were how much types etc.
mine has like a scaffold pole type with a huge thick cable going back to the steering arm of the sterndrive. please give any little bit of info if you think it may help as im a novice mostly. and thanks to Vics who's a diamond there aint one post he has not helped me out thanks alot mate. i really mean that

I akm guessing that it is a push pull cable from wheel to engine. I am guessing that the cable has internal corrosion.
You need to disconnect the cable at both ends and try to get lubricant into the cable by pushing and pulling. If it is really stiff you might need to leave it connected to the wheel to give enough force to move it.
Just keep working it while applying lubrication WD or oil. If you can't get it free you will need a new cable. just guessing good luck olewill

Had something like this on an outboard powered Norman many years back.

Get the cable off at both ends, suspend vertically (may involve upstairs window or stairwell, carful of SWMBO!) and dribble 3 in 1 into it. Have a little pot at the bottom to catch any that comes through. When its coming out the other end it should all be free again.

It may also be the clamp at the stern where the cable outer is secured to the boat and the inner to the leg.
I had the same almost seized steering on a small day boat and it ended up being the split-ball clamp being
a) too tight
and
b) at the wrong angle (the plates trapped the threaded shroud as the inner moved across the arc it describes when the lek moved).
