Many many years ago I worked for a chain hoist manufacturer and it was a legal requirement to change the chain after 5 years of use. I often considered seeing if I could buy old chain hoist chain welding lengths together and getting it galvanised.
Of cause it is in the galvanizers interest to coat and galvanized product with as little zinc as possible to save cost. The jobing galvanizer may have less control that the bigger guys in whose interest it is to reduce the amount of zinc used in their process.
