I want spray paint a lot of plywood but am unsure as to what equipment / type of paint to use. The plywood is to be used for internal cabinetry pieces so quality of finish is paramount. I was originally thinking of using one of the cheap electric spray guns, using a matt emulsion base then a top coat of varnish but someone suggested using a HVLP type system and a thinned oil-based paint. Someone else suggested a high pressure system etc. and so it went on...

I have spray painted before and it is one of those jobs that has to be done but my technical knowledge of what would be the best equipment to use is limited to say the least.

Any pointers or advice as to what equipment in relation to type of compressor / spray gun and most suitable paint system to use would be appeiciated.

I suggest that you get hold of the Blakes paint manual (from most chandlery's free) and be guided by that. I have successfully used Blakes paints, following their instructions, on my wooden boat both inside and out although only ever using a brush.

What you are looking for is a precatulised laquer available from paint wholesalers or manufacturers gloss or matt. It must be applied with a proper system i.e. a compressor with a receiving tank capable of delivering a constant supply of 50/80pounds/sq.inch pressure to spray gun.
