Hi all

I’ve recently bought a boat, but I simply don’t know the exact type of engine that’s in there (and my mechanic needs to know this to service it).

I know it’s a 4-cylinder Ford petrol engine made by Wortham Blake, London around 1970. Since it’s quite old I don’t think all the parts are 100 % original.
Anyone can help me determine the exact type by looking at these pictures?
Thanks a lot in advance!!20200628_174538-2043x2724.jpg20200628_174553-2724x2043.jpg20200628_174559-2043x2724.jpg20200628_174604-2043x2724.jpg20200628_205321-2043x2724.jpg20200628_205330-2043x2724.jpg20200628_205338-2043x2724.jpg

I used to have a Seamaster 25 and I am sure it was fitted with a 1500cc Ford petrol engine. Cortina or Escort?

It used to have a weird problem that I could never get to the bottom of. It started and ran fine from cold, but refused to start when it was at normal temperature. Drove me nuts!!! Even replaced the carb and that still didn't fix it.,

I think a suspect coil can cause starting issues after it has warmed up. Starts from cold no problem, but after running for a while, switch off and no start. Then there's the problem of petrol evaporating in the carb bowl. Also a hot engine issue.

For sure a pre-crossflow Ford. That engine family was also available as a 1300; only in the 1966/7 Mk 2 Cortina. There should be an engine type number on the right hand side of the block looking from the front. That number will tell you the original engine capacity.

Just to clarify it is a Ford 85mm bore engine which was made in 4 different capacities from 1959 to 1966. 997cc for the Anglia, 1200cc for Anglia and Cortina, 1340cc for the Consul Classic and 1500cc for the Cortina. It is difficult to tell the capacity externally except that the 1500cc has a slightly taller block to accommodate the longer stroke - they all have the same bore. The 3 smaller sizes all have 3 bearing cranks but the 1500 has 5 main bearings. Many mechanical parts and service parts such as gaskets, filters etc are interchangeable. Still a fair number of aftermarket parts available for the automotive bits.

My dad had a Ford Cortina Mk2 with a 1300cc engine which was like that.
Never got to the bottom of that either.

Hi , I’ve got a wortham Blake fisherboy with side mount carb .
Were these side mounted on the bigger engine for the purpose of not having to raise the floor or have a box on top of the floor. ?
anyone know where I can get a manifold for my engine?
cheers
