Hi,

The joint between the wooden transom and the quite flexible plastic thingy that joins to the tubes has come apart and I am wondering what to stick it back together again.

They came apart once before and I stuck them back together with contact adhesive, which lasted for a year or two but its been in storage for a few years since then and they have now come apart again.

I could just clean all the surfaces up and use contact adhesive again but wondering if there is anything better? The contact adhesive I used before has stuck ok on a reinforcing PVC patch I stuck on at the same time so not sure why these joints have parted, guess it didnt stick to the wood quite as well.

Thanks

Anthony

Use the correct two part adhesive for the material. (Different adhesives for Hypalon and PVC)

See Polymarine's website for advice/ instructions on repair including identifying fabric.

Adhesives and solvent cleaners should be available from any good chandler or RIB specialist or direct from Polymarine

Ah, perhaps not direct from Polymarine for WA :) but there must be suppliers of such materials somehwere.

Hi,

I wasn't sure if that special PVC glue would stick to 1) wood, and 2) the black plastic thingy which isnt the PVC fabric material that the tubes are made of, its more a bendy plastic. Do you think it would still work on these?

Thanks

I've had very poor results with Polymarine's two pot glue for Hypalon so I experimented with construction adhesives which worked much better.CT1 for instance will work very well in your case but there are many others on the market that will do a good job as well.

polymarine

when my previous inflatable started to expire i got the polymarine glue sent airmail from u.k no problems, purchased it via e bay, later when it became apparent further repairs/more glue was needed I discovered a stockist in sydney, sorry i cant remember their name but it was within the last twelve months or so. Even tho I have built "rubber ducks", I decided it was better to buy new than to attempt further repair, again there are good buys to be had on "THAT" auction site,. Ps dont forget to cut all the old fittings off your old hull "oarlocks, d'rings and valves etc" before you consign it to the tip"
