What to seal windows with?

For toughened glass I always use a low modulous neutral (non- acetoxy) silicone from Dow Corning.

Carefully mask off where you don't want it and then be bold to do any smoothing with a wet finger in one go.

For re-seating the frames back in the aperture in the coach house it's then Arbomast BR cleaned up with white spirit.

I have used Puraflex 40 for a good few years now in my boat building. But never in fitting windows either glass in frame or frame to boat. . I am rebuilding the windows on my own boat now and tempted to use it as i have a good amount of tubes left.
I usually use rubber seals and Puraflex 40 to hold rubber seal inplace and edge it off. Now i mite use it al one whole glass in frame seal.

mad maybe maybe as the glass will be a pig to get out if the glass needs to, but then it will only need to if broken and to be replaced. let you know haha

to fit frame sin boat i always use either Butyl tape or gun grade.

I reconditioned the windows on my mirror offshore. They were aluminium 'h' section and I used PU40 to seal glass into frame and caravan butyl sealing tape to seal frames to boat. They were fine for a couple of years when I sold the boat. No reason to suspect they won't still be still in place. I hope so because I wouldn't like to be the poor sod who removes the glass! These polyurethane adhesive/sealants are very difficult to remove.

that is why i have never used it on my of other folks boats. dam good stuff but a pig to remove. Thing though is if the glass is broke then that doesnt matter. i have had to remove HM sealant in the past from glass and it isnt that bad, and aluminum a bit harder though. a good wire wheel in a drill does the job well. digging outt he broke glass i guess will the biggest pain in the backside

12 years ago i replaced my Sabres windows with new ones. Alloy frames with toughened glass. They were assembled with black butyl rubber, at 9 years the seals were cracking up & last season they started leaking. Im now having to take the lot out & reseal.
I put the windows into the grp cabin sides with Butyl BR mastic & this is still ok.

Thanks everyone. I decided the physical constuction wasnt going to be secure enough to just use butyl, so went with a medium modulus neutral cure silicon. Hopefully won't need to change the glass for another 44 years....
