I need to repack my stuffing box and have measured the gap at 14 to 15mm.
ASAP Supplies only have 13 or 16mm square gland packing and they tell me the 16mm will be OK.
Are they correct?

yes, just flatten it a bit with a hammer, gently!

Either size will do. As Stu says, hammer it. The disadvantage of using oversize packing is that you get fewer rings in. If the stuffing box is relatively deep, it will be fine, but if it's shallow, you might be better with the undersize packing, and then you need to hammer it to make it bigger and thinner. Aim to get an absolute minimum of three rings of packing, preferably more.

When replacing the packing it's difficult to get the full amount in. Put in as much as you can then tighten the gland to push it further in then loosen the gland and fill the remaining space. Then tighten.
