Im looking for a stereo to be fitted in mid cabin with a fixed remote that can be fixed in the cockpit, any advice as to where to buy and what is the best value out there at the minute, thanks all.
Remote is a good idea. I use my ipod with a wireless connection in the cockpit and am frustrated that I can't adjust the volume. I would challenge a fixed remote. It will surely mean screw holes after the next upgrade and the remote is better protected by putting it away in the saloon.
Sorry I can't actually answer your question!
I have always found Clarion to be of exceptional quality. CMV1 is a watertight marine dvd / cd player -tuner. It is an all singing all dancing unit. The CMD6 is a marine cd receiver which is also watertight. Both of these can be controled by either a MW1 or MW2 dash mounted hard wired control, the MW1 having the advantage of a digital display. All clarion products carry 2 years warranty. If you want me to sent a catalogue on the range pm me your details and I will shoot it over with an attractive price quotation. (We are official Clarion agents)
I use the CMD6 myself and can highly recomend it.
Derek.
Why do you want to control the music in the mid cabin from the cockpit? I've racked my brains trying to think why you'd want to do that, but all I could come up with is that you want to lock screaming kids in there, and turn up the volume if you can still hear them while you're driving?
That aside, if it's going inside the boat then buy summit cheap from Halfords, you can replace it 5 times before you've spent as much as a cheap marine one.
Sony Xplod Marine range is good and used by many boat manufacturers as they do a nice little wired marine remote with display to control from the help or cockpit. Not cheap though, but not talking bose prices. Sony Xplod Marine Remote

For me it would be to control the volume of the external speakers which are in the cockpit. If, like me, you quite like to have music especially when doing a passage but need to turn it down when entering a marina or quiet cove. It's handy to be able to turn it down without sending someone down to the saloon to do it.
You may want to skip/repeat a track etc etc
I have a sony which is i-pod compatible, so it recognises playlists etc. It comes with a small remote, which is powered by hearing aid batteries.
The radio is at the chart table, the remote is in a sealed plastic bag, hanging off a hook near the entry. This way I can control the volume etc without leaving the helm.
It also means the radio and ipod are sheltered inside.
