Hello, forgive if this is a basic question but:
Just bought a sport/fisher Mazury 560. Yes, 5.6m.
Its got a 90hp outboard but I would like to fit an auxillary engine for emergencies.
What size do I need to propel me to safety assuming I am messing about somewhere in the solent? I could store on board somewhere and fit one of those fold down auxillary brackets in the winter months....

Gut feel says that 5hp should do it unless I was battling against a tide... but I wonder whether I can get away with something smaller???

Views?

Thanks in advance

I would have thought a 5 would do it easily, its not as if there is much drag once it gets moving. I had a mercury 4.5 for use as the main engine years ago, well balanced to carry on the handle and a reliable motor.

Im actually in the market for another now just to coast a 16' boat home if needed from the solent;)

In my opinion a 5 or 6 would be fine and a spring assisted fold down bracket is a must.
