Hi guys. So I purchased my Searay Sunsport 230 back in August last year, and I love her to bits. But I have no idea about taking care of her. When I eventually get back to Spain, with a bit of luck the next few weeks, what should I be doing before I take her back out again. She's got 40 hours on the engine, but im sure I should be checking for oil etc. Where the engine is, I seem to remember that it says you should check 4 things? Should I be taking any oil or lubricants out with me to Spain, or will I be able to buy it all there? I will be driving. Any help would be appreciated, you have probably gathered I am a female , but I would like to learn to do little things to my boat to take care of her.Thankyou.

All the checks are detailed in the user manual for the engine, but they will be the following:-

Engine oil level
Engine coolant level (if closed cooling)
Outdrive oil level
Outdrive trim unit oil level

Don't worry about taking anything out with you it can all be bought in Spain, but if you really want to, the type of oil etc is stated in the manual so you could buy some here before you go-although it probably won't need topping up.

Also Check how much growth there is on the Hull and outdrive, if lots, then get that cleaned off (either pay a diver or get the boat lifted) before you go anywhere over idling speed.

Also, I'm assuming th boat has been sat in the water all this time, so if so, you should check the state of the anodes, they may need replacing by now.

If the boat/engine/drive hasn't had a service then one will probably be due.

I would pay someone local to look after the boat. Makes boating life far less stressful! At the minimum cleaning and ensuring ropes are all ok in high winds. Mine (in Mallorca) is usually cleaned every 2 weeks, but I also get other jobs done (like boat lifts, engine servicing) when I am not there.

Maybe try to get friendly with people who are working or restoring their boats.
These people often have a lot of knowledge of boats.
I'm sure many would be glad to chat and tell you all about your boat ,how it works and how to maintain it
