What should I correct an IMRAY 'C' series chart with?

I am close to moving to IMRAY from Admiralty ( not that I have any choice in the matter!)

I own a lovely Faber Castell fine liner 'real' ink pen to correct my Admiralty charts.

Used on an IMRAY chart it soon rubbed off once dried.

What do I use the get the fine definition I currently get when correcting Admiralty charts?

I'd suggest rotring rapidograph with permanent ink. Used to use these pens for professional cartographic work and it doesn't rub off anything I know of (has usually to be removed from drafting film with a blade and nothing gets it off paper).

Afraid I don't know the type of the one I chose, but what I did was to go to a web site selling all kinds of pens and buy half a dozen different fine magenta ones. Then I "auditioned" them on an old chart for fineness of line and permanence of ink, and picked the best.

It would only have been two or three quid, not a craftsman's tool like BitBaltic is suggesting.

It's true that rotring are expensive and they do also need practised handling as they either run dry or splodge quite easily. An very good cartographic alternative is a Zig Millennium Pen- these come in a range of sizes down to about 0.2mm and are much easier to handle. They give a result very close to a rotring and are going on Ebay for £2.20 or so. Don't know if they would be as good on the sort of coated paper Imray use as a rotring though.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to rubbish your suggestion. In fact, I went looking to see if it was something I should buy for myself. I keep all my charts up to date, and the pen I have, while very fine by normal standards, is still sometimes a bit chunky for corrections in tight spaces.

However, I couldn't find any magenta (or purple) ink for a Rapidograph. Does it exist and I'm just not finding it, or do you use some other colour for corrections?

I'll take a look at the Zig, I think my current one might be running out soon anyway.

It's a good point about colours which I wasn't considering. We used to use red, black, blue (for drafting geological maps). There may not be a magenta, so that might limit the usefulness of the suggestion! I make corrections in black (I know it's not the done thing but it works for me). I think there are more colours available for the zig.

My apologies, I should have explained that I had already asked IMRAY what I should use and they said that which I already work with of pencil - neither prove to be satisfactory.

Correcting charts in pencil?!?

I think whoever answered your question either didn't understand it, or didn't know what they were talking about.

You could use the pen you have then, when dry, cover the correction with sellotape (matt type).
