... for a Vancouver 27, including the s/steel frame and zip-work to the existing sprayhood?

Any reccs for a reputable supplier in the Solent area?

Can I put my vote in for tecsew.

I had a quote from them a month ago, they gave me a reasonable out of season discount and possibly the best service I have ever had from any supplier.

Also their work is superb. I have a spray hood already and hope to have my Bimini by the end of the week.

No connection at all, just a very happy customer .

My advice would be walk around your local marinas and take a look at a few cockpit enclosures and you will soon see one you like, all designer will have their logo / contact details on their covers.

At least you will get to see their work rather than a few prices.

A small touch I used to do with all my sprayhoods was to include a clear pouch on the inside for somewhere to store your keys or mobile.

Jon, there's a local company 'Hamble Cover Services' located at the
Mercury Yacht Harbour who do Boat covers and upholstery and are at www.hamblesailingservices.co.uk or on 02380 456354/02380 455868.

Yet another local one is crystalcovers.com or at sales@crystalcovers.com
phone number 02392 380143.

One more to try is Philip Bull at Rain & Sun cover in Bevois Valley Southampton .Phil lives at Warsash so is handy for measuring up - he's a club member at WSC.

Might be worth getting next year's River Hamble Handbook from the Harbourmasters office which has an Marine directory and the year's Portsmouth tide tables within !

Cockpit enclosure

Hi, I bought mine 2years ago from 'comfort afloat'. Price about £1000 for my oceanis 321. When you order, be very specific with your requirements. It's too late once it's made. Just a few small changes could have made mine much more liveable but I was naive and thought they knew more than I did. No problems quality though, just the design flaws. Thanks. Alan

If we are not selling a standard design for which we would usually have multiple photos in the boat cover gallery of our website www.tecsew.com/gallery we would generate 3d cad renderings for customer feedback and approval, examples of which are shown in the 3d cad section of the boat cover and marine upholstery gallery. The advantage for the customer is if you specified standing height which may have an impact on looks at least you have a chance to see how it would look and posibly change it if you require. Same goes for window layout and zip positions.
The cad also helps us achieve the best possible design whilst meeting the customers brief.

We also use Sunbrella Plus, heavy duty quick release frame fittings and premium materials throughout as standard, not optional upgrades and have been supplying Northshore for over 20 years although we do not externally badge up their work with trade labels.

I was recently quoted £1950 for a 27 footer. This was bespoke and fitted by a company in the Lake District where my boat is berthed. I thought that was too expensive so I didn't take it up.

cockpit enclosure, rival redwing

Anything in particular that would be worth passing on?

Yes, simply, there is a good 6 inches left under the boom and i would have prefered more headroom,I am not tall but even I have to stoop. It could very easily have used all the height available. Positioning of the frame so it folds flat when not in use as opposed to needing to be removed, zip length of side openings so as to avoid the contortions on entry. Knowing what i know now, I would like the design to perhaps allow use of the roof section alone as a bimini. Okay, my last point might be utopia, but my general feeling in use is that there hasnt been much thought put into the design which has left me feeling less than happy. The enclosure functions as a cockpit enclosure, but user friendly it most certainly isnt Before you shell out a £1000, make sure you know what you are buying!
Thanks Alan

More sections may cost more but mean you can sail 4 seasons with just a windbreak or two, the individula panels will be easier to stow, the frame can be arranged to double as a summer bimini only, and fitted with sliders even along the foot mountings to ensure it folds back around the aft end of the cockpit really unobtrusively ( depending on the cockpit configuration)..so I would say have a good look at owners websites and sister ships, someone will have got it absolutely right, some less so, according to taste..And get it done in honestly UV proof thread, you dont want restitiching in 5-7 years time, do you?
Really posh ones in the tropics have sunbrella covers for the clear bits too. But it all adds up:eek:

Agree with this one ...

Ours can be unzipped at the front, undo the elastics and it folds back flat (like the sprayhood folds forwards) and just sits there ...
Handy for shortish or day trips where you know you're going to want to put the tent back up when you get there (or soon after) ...

Even if you don't have removable sides you can use it as a bimini by rolling up the openings and fastening them in position - not ideal and not tried whilst sailing ... but useful nonetheless ...
