So paper charts are being phased out is some quarters, CD's and DVD's are now all on a small hard drive, Books are all on a kindle and even the oil lamp has been replaced by small LED's.
So what's next and what am I going to do with all this space? (I suppose I will have to put batteries in there to run everything)

You could stowe a payer mat for when the hard drive packs up and you don't have paper back-ups.

We have a portable generator just in case!

Good thinking Mark. So do I, but do you carry enough fuel to keep it running for days on end ?

Personally I cant ever see a time in the future where paper charts will become obsolete.

As for all that space Mark............dont tell the missus or it will soon be full up with clothes & galley gadgets :D

Not just loss of charts, dvds and Cd's etc but TV's now have a tiny footprint.
You could go further and free up more space with collapsible kettles, cups, bowls, etc.

On our boat at least the space available is inversely proportional to the stuff we want to put in there. :(

That is like the wardrobe and draws my wife allocated to me and then claimed squatters rights on. I now have a shoe box to keep all my cloths and worldly possession in.
When it comes to winter all my space is free game.. she has put stuff in my work room, in the bilge... We are not not capable of sailing anywhere but we can supply drinks and nibbles very quickly.

You have a shoe box? You lucky, lucky ba$tard! :)

I once had a bow compartment with a V-berth in it. Now the cushions have been left behind and I'm still struggling to find space for new stuff.
The current scheme is to find place for a washing maschine.

I have got one of those old fashioned type washing machines. Sometimes it is a pain to start and needs a good kick but they are easy to move around. Needs servicing regularly though and parts can cost quiet a bit.. oh and goes by the name of Mrs Nostrodamus.

I bet it takes up a lot more space than the little Candy I was considering. However, I guess yours does double as an opinionated bed warmer

I did mention to the wife about getting a younger model... she just told me fine, if you can find one who likes old, broke men.
No I'll stick with the one iv'e got!

From this Watson, I deduce that Mr Nostrodamus does not allow Mrs Nostrodamus to read this forum!
