Does it cost more for the extra mast? :)

Ketch versions were dearer new of course, partly for the extra rigging & partly for the wheel steering.

I like ketches, they look a proper little yacht, but many people think they are pointless at 30' or less. You lose a little pointing ability, but I like the ability to sail with just genny & mizzen in strong winds or to reduce speed in confined spaces.

As to whether it commands a higher price now or not is anyone's guess. Some consider them "old-fashioned" and not like the extra complications, but others may be impressed. Plus, of course, the value also depends on whether you are selling or buying . . .

EDIT:
I see she is Chiron of Conway & in good nick with new sails & a Beta engine. I would think the £10,500 asking price is reasonable. You could try a lower offer & see how serious the seller is, but my guess is he may well hang on for a few months longer for a better offer.

Advice I had when selling through a broker is that they expect offers to be 10% less than asking price. the conventional wisdom is that if serious about buying you could make an offer around this level 'subject to a satisfactory survey'. If the surveyor finds faults you can then negotiate down from the offer to cover repairs.

However, the first thing I would do is find out how long she has been on the market. If she has been for sale for 12 months or more a significantly lower offer may be accepted as obviously no one wants her at the asking price. Having bought and sold a number of boats over the years I now start with the lowest offer I have the nerve to make without being downright insulting. If its rejected I can always offer a bit more. On one occasion the seller came back to me saying they had a much higher offer. I told them it was a very good offer and that they should take it. A month later they accepted my original offer.
