sorry about this

old habits die hard and people keep on sending me links to Centaurs for sale

I want to keep an eye on the market for when I have to sell Harmony in the spring

Interesting Centaur on Ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191072106...l?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=191072106970&_rdc=1

what will it fetch?

£2,200 - with £500 of that because it has a trailer

You are dead right

I think you are more expert in pricing Centaurs than any of us!

But I'll tell you one thing, I would not like to take it far on that trailer.

correct on both counts I presume

that is pretty bad isn't it - that at the age of 59 I may well be the most experienced person in the World when it comes to the price of decaying or abused Centaurs.

the trailer looks no tougher than the one I hauled my one tone eboat around on

I wonder if I shall ever recover from this affliction

engine

"Rudder is almost seized" sounds ominously expensive.

the engine is a mystery

I like the way the advert is written

For Sale due to:-

Old age (me - not the boat)

Other commitments

Waning enthusiasm

Selling at a loss is cheaper than a divorce

Sale to include:-

Trailer (with heavy duty straps)

Spare engine, in bits (I think it's complete, but no promises)

Spare gearbox

New marine toilet, not fitted

2 x tins Gel Shield

1 x tin Antifoul

Waterproof material to finish re-upholstering seat cushions (part completed)

If bidding passes £4000 sewing machine will be included, if not £50 extra if you want it

All things nautical in my garage (my Wife thinks the car should be able to use the garage)

Now the bad bits

The headlining is suffering from "Westerly Droop" particularly in the forecabin

The toilet sea cocks are jammed

The batteries will need replacing

No radio or navigation equipment

The rudder is almost siezed and will need removal & re-greasing

A yard trolley would have been be quite attractive to me, I wouldn't dream of towing a Centaur but some means of getting the boat out to work on her would be good.

There is quite a lot to look at when thinking about how to price a boat, the ingin is a big ticket item but the other stuff can add up to more.

Strange reflection on my age that over the past year I've seen several boats I knew in my youth. A while back I saw Genesee, a CO26 I used to sail on, now Segap, on which the owner of Gensee used to sail before he bought his own... Must be getting near time for me to give up!

I saw that when looking at ebay tonight and thought the same. Going to put it in my watch list. Doesn't look too bad. If the engine is no good you could put an outboard well in her. I wonder why nobody has thought of doing that?

That boat's been for sale on ebay before, I recognise the pictures and the description. Sounded unenticing before and it's got no better since!

I looked at this one today
trailer yard only as tow hitch caravan one very old don't know tonnage
tyres 4 x 750 kg =3,000 kg boat must go 4000 - 4500 kg let along 3500kg limit on overrun brakes
tyres tread ok but showing age /cracking sidewalls
hull small blisters to under waterline
hull very dirty but seams ok
water has got in hatch and rotted out wash boards so could be a bit more
headlining a mess all over
sails quick look seamed ok
cooker get a new one
all new ropes needed
engine turns over
it has sat there 7 years lovely chap never sailed it :(
the rest is as advert
access :- in my opinion it is up a drive and it would need to be towed on its trailer out onto the road with a short wheelbase truck (discovery ok ) to get a turn in somewhere to get it beside a lorry with crane on their is a utility compound next door with a locked gate but looks narrow and lorry might not swing in
for that reason I am out if you hart is set on one of these it might be worth it but I think you want lorry and a 4x4 to move it

well done

the right geography is always important

a truck move can add £1000 to a price

The westerly droopy headings is an easy fix either with a glue gun (LOL) or renewal with more durable foam backed than was available in the 70s. I'd like that trailer for my little boat!
