What power outboard do I need?

We have a Plastimo 270 inflatable (weight = 29.3 kg) which came with a 6hp 4-stroke Tohatsu engine. Had the engine serviced, it's had v little use (2005 model) and works fine but I find it a little too heavy to lift on/off transom. Also, with only two of us in we never had it above half throttle. Was thinking of selling Tohatsu to a good home (PM me if interested) and buying a smaller OB. Was thinking 3.5/4HP. Will this be powerful enough? Our useage is to/from mooring only + occasional trip down to Butt and Oyster from Woolversone.

I have 2 stroke 4hp Mecury on a 270 Quicksilver airdeck and it shifts 4 of us nicely. With me and the boy will easily plane at some speed

Your spot on, in my view. Downgrading to a 3.5 two-stroke will do wonders.

Let me know if I can take your 6HP in part exchange for a new 3.5. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I too started off with a 6 hp - but found it too heavy - go for a 3.5 2 stroke
