Just had this in one of their email adverts:

"It’s been a fantastic summer, although the high seawater temperatures and intensive UV and ozone rays have taken their toll on our boats. Now is therefore the time to undertake some basic boat maintenance. This will be especially beneficial as it will help to prepare well in advance towards storing the boat for the winter."

Winter storage? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Due to a combination of unfortunate, non-boaty related incidents, including being crippled with a bad back for much of the summer, the boat has not ventured further than from hoist to pontoon.

At last, casting off for two weeks from this weekend. With the best forecast for weeks, will Compass's words - rather belatedly - at least have a ring of truth about them?

Here's hoping... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was also a bit surprised at this, when I got their emailshot. But I'm told that some other parts of Europe have been having an unusually hot summer (e.g 40 degrees in Vienna, 42 in Budapest)

Compass are a Europe-wide organisation, so I guess that the text of the emailshot was written once -in general terms - then simply translated to the language of each target market's country, without consideration for the lousy summer that we've had in UK.

Thanks v much - and you're right, of course. Compass has obviously taken its advice too literally and prepared its own newsletter "well in advance".

Where the seawater temperatures are well known to be high in summer, of course

Serves you right, you should use a company that does not send midless drivel to you. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hang on, this is midless drivel and I am sending it to you. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

There must be a chandler out there somewhere that doesn't. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In my own defence, I use them to order stuff for my neighbour - I have one of their electric pumps for a loo which I need to fit for him tomorrow - electric pumps on loos - whatever next. Now that bit about UV and Ozone, do you people with gliberfast bateau get them crumbling away when the sun comes out?

Sorry, sorry, sorry, I didn't mean that..... It's the grey skies, I think I've got SAD

I sent them a humminbird colour fishfinder for repair in June, I am still awaiting delivery, I really would like to use it sometime this year! Wherever you live or purchase anything from, be aware it has to go to England first then to Germany then back to UK, it aint quick! never again /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The German one ..... and I'm a little annoyed.

I bought an item recently from them ... stock was listed as zero via German web-site. Price XX Euros.
So went to UK site where stock listed as current and available. Price XX+ Pounds.

Needing the item - I ordered ... and was then given not one P&P addition - but 2 P&P additions ... so I telephoned .. Why ? Arr first is our standard P&P ... second is because we surcharge for outside UK etc. Total was a bit OTT - I have to say - but I needed item ...

So completed purchase ... and it duly arrived here in Latvia at my office ...

3 guesses where it came from ? 3 further guesses what invoice showed ...

Yep - supplied from German stock ... BUT at UK price.

Sorry Compass - unless you are last possibility - I shall buy elsewhere now ... I think charging me a different price for an item from the cheaper outlet is not fair.
