What oil - MD11C air filters?

Hi guys,

I'd like to clean and re-oil the air filters on my old Volvo Penta MD11C. What's the best way to wash them and what's the best oil to use?

There's also a filter in the oil cap - is it worth washing this filter? I can't imagine that this has ever been cleaned and looks full of thick black gunk.

The owners manual tells you how to clean the air filter elements.

I have never seen any mention of cleaning the filler cap but if it has a gauze filter in it treat it similarly. using what ever will shift the "thick black gunk". Kerosene perhaps ?

(I'd probably use kerosene rather than diesel to clean the air filter elements)
