does anyone know what thecorrect oil is for my 120hp non turbo ford sabres and what quantity of oil??, thanks in anticipation.

Good quality modern oils are suitable for everything, petrol diesel and turbo. Forget the synthetic stuff, less brand new. No idea on quantity. Stick a gallon in, then half and so on, till it appears on dip stick.

the dipstick is what the problem is, its been overoiled for a long while and the dipstick needs re-marking, because the engines sit at an angle, causing the boat to smoke badly as no 5 and 6 bottom end is permanantly covered in oil

Hi,the normal quantity for 6 cyl fords is 15 litres.I have 212hp ford Dover (Mermaid) Turbo Intercooled. You have had so many post about your probs the best thing is to speak to Mermaid Marine Engines. If you do have wrong quantity of oil you will either....Cause engine to run on own oil when hot and you wont stop it OR Cause loss of compression and seizure if to little oil. Recalibrating the dipstick is required but you need to get the correct quantity in it first.

would suggest you speak to golden arrow marine or the people who took them over as to the cut length for the stick.

you are quite right the engines are supplied with a stick for level installation and should be adjusted on installation , something often forgotten by builders. (by cutting thr top end of the tube)

for the 150s shell rimula x 20/20 w or another series 3 oil is indicated

oil consunption being reckoned as .5 to 1% of fuel consumed, ie much higher than modern engines

24 imperial pints, if you can get the sumps empty, but I doubt it, our engines are inclined at 15 degrees which is the max with forward wells on the sump some engines have wells at the rear, others have additional pumps which allow the engine to run standing vertical, I digress. If at max incline the stick tube should be 1/2 inch shorter, but be aware this could already have been done, the only way is an empty sump and a refill with 24 pints, or 13.6 ltres, and an additional 2 pints or 1.14 litres for the new filter. PM me I will send you the relevant page.

A friend of mine with 120 Fords in a 1980 Birchwood 33 had terrible oil leak problems. He eventually spoke to Mike Bellamy at Lancing Marine who gave him advice on the quantity and it transpired he had far too much oil despite being bang on the dipstick level. There was a reason which I forget.
Since reducing the quantity he has had no further problems.
