Its a motorboat, first time out of the solent, GPS/Chartplotter goes dead, weather is worsening (although the boat may still be able to take it the crew might not feel so happy!) and they are just round the corner from Poole ...
As far as we've been told, the engine and controls are working, steering is fine. They are only 3 miles out - so still in easy sight of land (for now)
I would hope they have some paper charts on board - so to me it would be a no brain-er - find shelter as quickly as possible - ie - turn round, head into Poole - if detailed charts of Poole were not available then just follow the main channel round to Dophin marina and tie up ... find a pub and either try and fix your GPS power problem or find a man who can...
Compared to the normal complexities - Water everywhere whilst your port engine dies and starboard one coughs, and the anchor has fallen off the front - in the middle of a busy shipping channel - I thought this one was a little too simple... even if more likely to happen!
