Recently picked up a 280 leg with power steering for the current renovation project. I know it can't have a no-feedback steering but would like to know what make and model of steering is fitted to boats with this leg as standard.
Thanks.

Thanks.

On my P33 it had a Vetus hydraulic pump at the steering wheel and a pattern ram connected to the steering arm on the 280 leg.

I think basically as the power steering makes the helm very light there is no need for hydraulics and a simple push-pull cable system will be a lot cheaper. Raymarine make an auto-pilot drive specifically for these power steering systems as well.
I've always used hydraulic as the norm but this is why I am asking the question.

Old Git, You've got me thinking. It would be easier to scrap the power steering system and go for standard hydraulic. Wouldn't have to make up a bracket for the steering pump on the engine or arrange another pulley to drive it. The ST70 pilot I will be using is cheaper with hydraulic drive than the linear power steering option so why not? And of course, one less thing to go wrong!
I thought this thread would get a lot of replies but maybe the power steering isn't as common as I thought.
The one question still outstanding then: is the steering on a 280 DP particularly heavy making it essential to use the power steering?
If Volvo Paul sees this, I'd like your opinion please.
