.. to pole out my high cut Yankee? Is there a quick and easy rule of thumb? The boat is a 27' Vancouver.

Ideally I would like a telecopic pole that I can use on the crusising chute as well - is there also a formula for that ?

Any advice gratefully received.

The basic rule is that for a jib/genoa the pole should be the length of the foot of the sail. for a spinny it should be the distance from the mast to the forestay or thr J figure.
