But we're not talking about a situation where a rolling hitch would be appropriate here! A rolling hitch is for a situation where the pull is along the line of the rope or spar you are tying to. A ratline will exert it's pull at an angle of at least 45° to the shroud for which a rolling hitch would be totally wrong.
