For me - it's none of those things & all of those things.

Had been shopping around for a family boat (offshore cruising & possibly further) for about 18 months. Went to a yard to view a Catalina 36, and I liked it. Was on my way to meet the owner to arrange a survey when I noticed an Etap 38i. Love at first sight, and she had a for sale sign up. Met the Etap's owner in the bar that same afternoon, took her out for a 2 hour sail & bought her there and then. No survey, no checking with the wife,... nothing. It was her.

Have had some problems with her since then, but she's still the one for me (and now there's light at the end of the tunnel)

The boat chose me, rather than the other way round. I am the third generation of the family to live with her. I keep going eery year with the paint brush because she is such a lovely shape but also that the burden of family history makes it rather tricky to ditch her for a younger model.
