Evening all.. I am looking for a bit of plastic to make an extra inst. panel. It is laminated ..black/white/black so that when you engrave a name or nomber through the surface,it shows white. What is it called and where can I get a bit ( approx 150 mm square)? Thanks

Know any really cheap but good engravers? I've just had 4 quotes for a couple of panels - now ordered these from the cheapest (very high t/o of mimic/fascias so very competitive), but the prices all seemed a tad high. Quotes were:

TCE Ltd - £66 + VAT
2G Products - £60 + VAT
Traffolytelebels.co.uk - £43 + VAT
engraved-labels.co.uk - £35.09 + VAT

All inc. delivery

The prices look about right even compared to here, here maybe a bit cheaper. Laser engraving is cheaper but not nearly as good.

Too far away to make a supplier recommendation but for small face plates like the bilge alarm one, as an alternative one can easily make them oneself if you choose a nice standard domestic blanking electrical wall faceplate (as opposed to one with a 230v socket or whatever in it) and drill it to requirements.

Then label using an engraved plastic label or even a good label maker - don't know about there but here there are multiservice stores that do keys, plastic name tags, watch batteries, engraving, etc and they do engraved plastic labels for a fraction of the price of the signwriters, etc but have to stick to their standard sizes of precut plastic stock.

Not sure what size the blank wall electrical faceplates are there with your super big sized AC plug and socket system but here they are around 115mm x 75mm (and doubles bigger).

May be useful or if not perhaps for others.

Pity I didn't get a chance to quote - I do lots of these engraved panels by laser and my prices are a fraction of these!

I'm confused as to why laser engraved are "not nearly as good"?

Almost all of my work is done on plastic (acrylic) material, but unless it's really high wear, they look fantastic. and are pretty tough.
