What is this please ?? It has a label on to use Rule Oil ...

I think you're right ... I think its engine as there are only 2 small diameter pipes exiting ... for tabs - I would expect 4 ... but when looking at back of engine - those small bore pipes seem to pass through transom at a distance from the sterndrive line ..

Could trim tabs work on one line to each ???

Mine do. One pipe for up, one for down, a pair of solenoids to determine which tab works.

Maybe I wasn't so clear ... I only have two what appear to be small bore pipes from that unit ... and in the photo - you only see one pipe going through the transom ...

I need to open up transom again - but it looks like only one pipe per side .. not two as I would expect.

When looking at the tabs ram - I could not find the usual two pipe set up .. one pipe at each end to do Up / Down ....

I have a new log to fit to the boat - the old impellor Sumlog is stuck and not working .... so maybe a lift out later and a real investigation !!

Trim tabs don't usually have two pipes going to each ram, mine certainly don't (Bennett). A single pipe from the pump goes each ram. When the "lower" button is pressed the corresponding solenoid valve opens and oil is pump to the ram, forcing the ram to extend, lowering the tab. When the "Raise" button is pressed and the corresponding solenoid valve opens, the pump runs the other was, pumping oil from the ram, back to the reservoir and the tab raises.

Of course, yours might be different.

You must be right as there is only one pipe per side ...

We were testing alongside today and we noted a slight oil seepage from the stbd ram ... so definitely hydraulic - not electric.

Tks Paul.

You're welcome.

Again, your might be different, but on Bennet rams there is a 2 core cable coming from the ram, inside the boat. That's the sender wire for indicator gauges.

I now know why there's a bottle of ATF / Hydraulic fluid in the locker !!!

Will have to really get down into the engine bay and check out more ... it is not so easy for me - having snapped spine vertebrae in past and had it glued back together .. its hard to bend and get into spaces ....

when you get her on the hard, post pics of the rams, easy to identify them (if bennet) but I wouldn't expect them to have the control you posted in the other thread...
If it's leaking in the water it's o rings in the ram itself, if it's leaking in the engine bay/inside transom, could well be wrong dia black pipes. It's imperial (if bennet) which I think measures 6.3mm so ppl tend to replace them with metric 6mm and the olive doesn't compress and you get oil leaks. Got the tshirt for that!

Its going to be a while before she's out of water ... I plan to do it mid summer - give her a pressure wash off under as well ...

Plus I want to fit the speed log and sounder ... I have a Dual Clipper unit new in box.
