What is this carbuncle south of Stour No2 at Wrabness

Hoorah, at last another person who feels the same way as I do about this abomination. The locals are not best pleased and the weirdo that is Grayson Perry designed it but I understand that he did it as a commission from the land owner who was not given planning permission to significantly extend an old and run down bungalow originally on site. The area planning dept should be strung up if they can be found (probably off somewhere soaking up the sun after being 'bunged', allegedly)

better give Putin a ring then but wait, isnt he a nine bob note too

Philistines! Actually, may I join you? Where I differ from some is that I don't find it offensive (having only seen it from pictures) but just very silly; it just looks like a large Wendy-house. Don't let's worry about it. It can easily be demolished. Which reminds me of a famous Thomas Beechamism, on seeing the Sydney Harbour Bridge "That thing needs to be dismantled".

Cross dressing potter.

Hyphen, surely? He's not simply irritable while getting ready to go out! :)

<Pedant mode off>

We were up at Wrabness on Weds but didn't happen to notice it, though Mrs H knew it was there somewhere. Thanks for the 'heads-up' for the next time.

I have to say that I'm an admirer of Grayson Perry's other work.

From what I saw on the TV programme about the conception & build I think this one is just too whimsical. Though I can understand why he took the project on having been given the opportunity.

I've been watching it build over the last couple of years, and still have mixed feelings about it. I sometimes would agree with Little Sister's comment, and then I sometimes think it looks like a Byzantine interpretation of Wrabness church, built by Toys 'r us for Barbie.

The planning permission seemed to have been granted in part on the strength of the way the building promised to make art accessible, by renting out at an affordable price. That price now seems to be about £400 a night for two beds, which stretches the definition of affordable.

It has provoked a lot of interest, and increased footfall on the beach. I'm going to join in the art in architecture movement by wrapping my hut with a large - 30 foot or so- octopus (if I can get my Mum to knit one) possibly with some form of robotics inside, and see how the planners like it. Remember, they're the same philistines who destroyed the Banksy 'pigeon and swallow' cartoon in nearby Clacton.

My best mates parents can see this from their kitchen window ( they live just over the railway bridge next to Wrabness Stn) and they rather like it. And I must say from close up it doesn't look too bad, I was round their place in April just before Gayson Perry did a programme on TV about it. There have been some issues with motorists driving down the lane and finding out there is nowhere to turn round. But the community shop is reported to be doing a bit more business lately.

I expect Freston Tower was thought a little weird at the time it was built. Think of the Perry place as just another folly in the woods?

I think it's a valuable contribution to the riverside scenery. The golden copper roof just shines out at various times of the day. We need interesting architecture, not just boring 3-bed semis.
