What is this and can I dangle from it?

Even the eyes to which I clip or fasten the cords of my lee-cloths and the 'safety strap' in the galley are much meatier stainless castings and are bolted with M6 bolts!

I'd have preferred similar, but the leecloth anchorage had to be behind a Velcro-fitted cushion that would not sit against the bulkhead properly with a bigger eye. I'm confident it's strong enough for very occasional leecloth support. I made no similar compromises on jackstay and harness point anchorages.

I too have 2 of this beauty that a previous owner installed and I can see no immediate use for except tearing chunks out of arms and legs. I'm assuming they were for some weird line setup but I would not dangle from any of them at all.
It has somehow puzzled me why someone would apply something like that inside the cockpit were you’re always moving. I got nothing…

Like I said, some owners add all sorts of weird contraptions to their boats :). Our previous one had two lashing eyes in the cockpit footwell to attach guy-ropes that stopped the table (precariously mounted on top of the rudder stock with the tiller folded upwards) from wobbling.
