Hi

I found that the rudder of my boat is not in good status.
How much should I pay for a new rudder ready to install? The size of the boat is 7 m and the rudder length is of around 1m.

The rudder should include the steel post to be easily assembled in the boat.

Some pictures of the old rudder are in the post: How to fix a rudder?

Who are the possible suppliers inside Europe?
I am in Portugal

Thank you very much in advance?

Regards

Pedro

The solution that was given by Cliff in the other thread tells you how it can be done. Start by removing the rudder from the boat and examining the extent of the damage. Chances are that you will not need a full re-build. After cutting away the area where there is the rust crack at the top until you expose the metal stock, you will be able to judge what would be the best course of action. Personally, I do not think that you will need a total rebuild, unless the wood has rotted away.

I'm not a raggies man, I have a motor boat, but......why can't you forget wood and just get one made in 6mm stainless steel sheet and bolt it on to the stock shaft? It looks, and I could be wrong, as though the round stock is cut away for the last 100mm of it's length to provide a flat surface for the rudder to be bolted to, this would be ideal for a stainless blade replacement. Assuming the right grade of stainless a stronger and longer lasting job?
