What is the East Coast?

Having been based in the Medway for some years I decided to move the boat around a bit, so next season I am in Dover.

My question is, am I still on the East Coast? Where does it start and where does it end? And if Dover isn’t the east coast, what is it? Can I post here, or do I need to learn to talk posh with the South coast people?

The East Coast is more a state of mind and attitude than geography! We are a friendly & helpful bunch as has been shown on more than one occasion when a contributor has been in difficulty and the forum has rallied round with practical advice / work party / whatever required.

I think there is someone in Rye who is classified as an East Coaster so Dover is well within the territory!

I would venture to suggest: anything East of Greenwich

In the harbour it may help if you speak French, Dutch, Belgian, German and a bit of Polish, but in the town it could be anything, including Albanian and Urdu.

I have a desire to visit Holy Island but what with no work not sure how I can fit it in between fortnightly signing on dates!

Having bought Gladys from Dover, one word of caution. The proximity of the road and the volume of truck traffic going to the ferry port mean that there is loads of dust in the atmosphere... It took about 6-12 months for the running rigging etc to dump it all out on the deck....
