What is the differnce bewteen the Princess V42 Mk1 and Mk2?

Does the mark 2 have a second heads like the new V42Ht?

I have hd a look, on the web, and other than D6 engines and the deletion of the garage option I cant see any differences.

No second heads. Slight differences to cockpit seating detail. Different windscreen detail (black A pillar). Depending on the age of the mk1 you're looking at, different tv installation in the saloon.

1. rounded windshield like similar to V50
2. cockpit only available with c-shaped seettee and l-shaped settee next to helm, V42 Mk.1 had also a sunpad, garage option which was quite popular too
bathing platform is also slight deeper in mk.II
other stuff apart estetics are
LOA is 13.15 m the same length 12.75 m
Beam -2cm in mk.II 3.73 m
and the draft is surprisingly 18 cm less in V42 .92 in this case versus 1.1 on mk.1
the approx displacement is quite different having a .9 of a ton less in the mk.II which weigh 7.6t
this weight difference gain takes more importance when one notes that the Mk.II was only available with heavier D6 engines from 310 to 370hp, same goes for the draft
another unhidden difference will also be find in the engine room, having seen a mk.1 on the flash IMO would be very difficult to put those D6 there, in fact to accommodate the bigger newer generation Volvos the tanks are located in the middle and to fore of the engines versus to the sides of the engines of the Mk.1
this should IMO give also a more stable ride
I think to remember that water line lenght is also slightly longer but dont have actual dimensions to prove this..
may be this can explain the 18cm draft difference altough it is still a bit too much

In addition to the above the MKII also had a slightly "soft touch" grey helm area (instruments, chart table etc) rather than white GRP moulding, grey "burr wood look" instrument surround rather than burr walnut and nicer more modern steering wheel. The whole effect is much more modern.

Also has a fixed manual hydraulic cockpit table support which mean you cannot remove the table.

Also has a smaller engine access hatch (as a result of the table mount).

Also has a much better L shaped wet bar in the cockpit with top loading fridge and room for a BBQ and storage under.

But the basic concept and layout is the same.

The MK1 was available with D6-310 and latterly D6-350 engine options.

The sunpad layout was very unpopular due to the tiny seating area (for a 42ft boat) that remained, and very hard to resell.

but you are right they should stay as the V40 was available in shaft with the Volvo 370hp Tamd63Ps which are in fact bigger then the D6
the V42 was still in the end an little extended old V39/ V40

The KAD 44's and KAD 300's were quite wide engines for some reason though weren't they? Whereas the D6 is quite compact for such a large engine. So maybe in width terms they're very similar?

They did indeed fit TAMD 63P's on Vee drives, but the additional drag of the shafts, P brackets and rudders meant they weren't really any faster hence not very popular choice new (extra £25K for no extra speed).

Agree that it was purely an evolution of the original V39,but it's surprising how dated an original V39 looks compared with the last V42 MKII (prior to the brand new model).

Bizarrely for such a popular boat, Princess have now canned it for a boat that does virtually everything the V45 does for virtually the same price as a V45. Odd.
 
Can't help thinking that if they'd just dropped the V42 completely and then lowered the price of the V45 by £12K and upped production to whatever the combined V42 and V45 production is currently then they'd have saved themselves a load of development cost and hassle and achieved pretty much the same result that they have now. Two near identical boats at near identical costs doing nearly the identical thing.

and apparently as someone said here its hard for Princess now to sell the V45 and they are giving huge discounts, more then the 12k you mentioned
many people who saw both boats, tell me the V45 is more good looking too...
 
Interesting, I'd have thought it would be harder to sell the V42 on the basis that a V45 is (at list prices) only, what, another 6% more money?

Agreed, but plenty more people in the 40' market than 45' market IMHO. Princess know's something we don't no doubt....there must be a reason behind such a glaringly obvious price clash.
 
Possibly, but then the V42 is now 44' 6" LOA and the same beam as the V45! :D

So effectively the same boat with a bit hacked off for the same price.

What's a shame though, is that there is no sub £300K boat in the range anymore, no boat with only one heads even.
 
new Fairline 44 Targa open version with D4 300hp and 4kw Genny starts will start from 292k UK£ ex VAT if you are interested, add 10k and it comes in GT version
it is more a shame because some other EURO boats like the Prestige, Cranchis could offer something similar, but the current weak pound does heck them a bit
I personally think the Fline 44T is more practical to the Princess, altouth the V42 or 45 is a better looker
