Can anyone tell me the difference between the older Volvo MD2B and the newer MDIIC as they look very similar to me. Same cold start device, same dipstick position, same head configuration, same MS gearbox etc.
What is the difference between a Volvo MD2B and MDIIC

Similar....maybe on the outside.

The MD 11 benefited from the problems identified in the MD2 and has
better cooling ports across the head gasket and wet cylinder liners just
for starters. It should b easily installed where an MD 2B was removed from and be a better engine. It has a curious point which was ignored in a PBO article on its maintenance though photos with thearticle showed the fault to be present!!!!
Holes develop in the lower liner opposite the bronze drain cocks so it is wise to turn the liners in the block whenever doing overhauls and then fit new liner seals.
