What is the Best Prop Antifoul Colour

I've always antifouled my props black, and every year they still get covered in the weed and slime. But I've noticed more and more seem to paint their props white and other 'pretty' colours. I'm starting to think that this must be due to the better antifouling properties of light coloured paint, am I wrong?, it surely can't be good colour co-ordination for just a few weeks out of the water during winter. Somebody help me please, does the colour matter? before I have to invest in another tin of black anti-foul paint.

Black is Best.

Apparently black antifouling contains more active ingredients than other colours in the popular lines. Check out the replies to THIS THREAD from back in March.

(Yes, I find it hard to believe too).

I scraped the (red) antifoul off my prop and polished it, and there was no increase or decrease in the amount of fouling. In the spring there were a lot of folk extolling the virtues of anhydrous lanolin. A recent thread indicated that this has neither a positive nor negative effect as an antifouling. I have a sailing boat by the way, results on a motor boat may well be different, but I suspect that the natural bronze finish is still the best antifouling.

I polish mine (prop that is), then smear heavy crease on (prop that is!!). This has good results if applied at the beginning of haulout and left over the winter months to harden before relaunch. I have recently bought a steel boat and don't intend to have her out of the water for long periods so I am interested to see if this method will remain successful for me.

Brett - I think maybe another sign that winter is coming on over there?

Whether this thread is a leg pull or not I do not know, however, I have been intrigued in the past by threads where antifouling props is mentioned. I have to say that out here in the colonies I cannot recall ever seeing an anitfouled prop. Possibly not the sort of thing one would go looking for, but I am sure I would have noticed had I been looking at a lifted boat that did have one.
