technology has changed from my valeting days(car that is ) so in the general opinion of all, what is considered the best product for polishing the boat,(cannot find pure carnuba wax, anywhere) bear in mind this is a 30yr old hull that has been sanded, cut back, and finally G3 finish, Please tell me there is a magic spray that a man across the yard can do for a fiver!!!! my little arms are killing me!!!

sorry Pauline but thats Blox
I always thought that Autoglym was a good as it gets, but at the weekend I was treated to a splodge of Telfon or something like that, and it truly wailed.
At fifteen quid for about half a pint it was enorrmously expensive but wow, what a polish. I will try to find out what its called in time for't meet.

Well that's a real treat of a response. Rubbished the 3M then didn't know the name of the preferred splodge. How can we go out and get supershine if we don't know what we are after?

agree. 3M gives best result out of anything I've tried.

Though don't judge boat by that next weekend, haven't polished it since beginning of last year <s>

The stuff is Starbrite Teflon boat polish......funny that. Good stuff though, lasts for ages. You'll only need to do it maybe twice a year. Never used the 3M stuff so don't know how it compares.

My boatyard told me that 3M is what they use & they reckon to get 9 months between applications.

Alot of it depends on how often you wash the boat and what you wash it with. I used 3M refinishing products when I repainted the range rover. All was fine until I started using a wash'n'wax stuff that I get from the wholesalers. Washes the car fine, takes off all the polish as well. Best results was from a 'classic car wax' from Decasol. Base of the polish is carnuba wax as mentioned by gonefishing. Lasted the longest on the painted finish and was nearly as good as the teflon on the boat. The boat gets washed down everytime its used. So inther summer that could be as many as 4 times a week. So on the whole twice a year is really not that bad. A tub of the teflon will last a couple of years. At 11 quid a tub, it won't break the bank!
Most people will find what they're happy with, for the money the teflon suits me. What does the 3M stuff cost and how long does it last?

Try Starbrite Teflon

Ever wondered why those round the world yachties arrive back in port with a gleaming white hull after 26000 miles?

After you have worked your arms off and cleaned the hull (maybe with Oxylic acid gel, especially for white hulls!!) try two polishes of startbrite teflon. It works and more importantly it reduces the amount of repolishes you need to do.

Re: Best combination then...

Works for me. You could cut the cost a little getting the oxalic acid from the chemists and mixing it up in something like wallpaper paste. I've done it once or twice, but to be honest its not worth the bother. Depends on the size of the boat that need cleaning.
