Dumb question I know - 'beauty in the eye' , 'caveat emptor' etc etc - BUT it is a Suzumar 230 inflatable(Suzuki) plus a 2.2hp Suzuki outboard. Package is 2yrs old. Looks ok if not pristine having been crusied live aboard for the last 2 years.

The same package is £960 new now. Seller wants £650. Any views?

personally consider that the 2.3m is a tad small, you get a lot more stability and carriage in the 2.6m tender Depends a lot really on how you stow your boat and how much space you have.

I've got a mailspeed 2.6m slatted floor and the suzuki 2.2hp 2 stroke.
On my little boat it's too big to put anywhere, towing it slows me down so much its painfull. Too wide to hang on back, too big to stow by mast in bag and use genoa, too big to sit on the bows and use the main.
And its v.heavy.
Experience is an expensive lesson.

Mine is a zodiac 2.6 with inflatable keel and air deck, with a 3.5 Tohatsu. Not a problem on my 29ft boat! just hangs on the davits. - I had a quick look at the bio for the original poster, and would have thought that they may have had enough space for a larger boat as their boat is 11m long.

In terms of carriage I would prefer a larger tender but the Suzumar has large tubes and by all accounts gives a good ride. It is one of those occasions when the boat is there in the marina and the owner is selling everything including his yacht so it seemed worth considering.

My own boat is indeed 11metres but I have no davits and limited space below decks for storage. The Suzumars are nicer - I think- than the cheapo ranges of inflatables and I hoped I might get a good price. Your thoughts though are most welcome and I shall have to think carefully before making him an offer.

Suzumar certainly scored well in the PBO test a couple of years ago. I have never been able to find a new one when I looked so ended up with the Zodiac.

Much too much. Second hand out boards are always 'pigs in pokes'. You never know what has happened to them. My first was an ex immersed and wrongly reassembled Seagull. No warning.

The motor is worth about 150 to 200. The dinghy about 200 I reckon. I would offer 350 and pay 400. Maybe buy the dinghy and get a new Honda with five year warranty for about 350.

"Second hand out boards are always 'pigs in pokes'. You never know what has happened to them. My first was an ex immersed and wrongly reassembled Seagull"

I would disagree with your biased, blanket statement.

I have recently sold 2 outboards that were in excellent condition - one less than a year old with less than 20 hours on it and one 3 year old with again less than 20 hours on it. Both new owners were extremely happy and were able to see the engines running before either of them parted with any cash. these were sold for 75% and 60% of new price respectively. Everyone concerned was happy and got a good deal. Because you got shafted by a rogue does not mean all second hand outboards are "pigs in pokes".

The same could apply to second hand cars - you do not know what has happened to them when you buy them.

Yes I agree but a there might be 'a cat in the poke'. Outboard motors are usually very complex devices that require strict obsevance of the instructions. You don't know what the previous owner did. An outboard motor that fails at sea can get the user in dire difficulties. Seeing my old Seagull running would not have uncovered the fact that it had been on the bottom. Seagulls are very forgiving outboards. After reassembling it went well for the next ten years. But I trust my 'new' five year old Honda more because I know how it has been treated.

As with a second hand car, or boat, an outboard should only be bought at a low price to allow for the cost of puttting things right. You did well to get 75 % of the new price.

I bought a 2yr old Plastimo 230 with air floor last year - paid about £250 for it. Suzumar is better quality, I suspect, so probably worth £300.
