What is it .... PLEASE?

It is definately a Buckingham 22

My Parents had the 20' version which was identical apart from somehow they inserted about 2' into the middle.

Do NOT try and remove that keel - it is part of the original moulding not an add on!!!!

If you lift the hatches in the floor you can get access to it. On boats that were for use in the esturies, they used to fill the keel with lead shot or concrete, it stabilises the boat a lot, but fundamentally it is a canal/river boat - I wouldn't be keen to take her to sea unless it is TOTALLY calm - the boat simply wasn't designed for it.

I can't help as to whether it will plane or not, as the most we ever had on our 20' version was 18horses so it never got much over 6knots

I can't see a reason why it wouldn't plane, but I think it would need an awful lot of power to do so - the 20' boat weighed in at nearly 2 ton with the keel full of concrete so it's gonna take a lot more than 40HP to get that up and running on the plane especially with that keel - personally I don't know if the transom will take the kind of horsepower you'd need.

Good luck, I remember this boat with such fondness as I spent almost every summer weekend on her from 6mths old to about 18 - and was almost in tears when then finally sold her!

I repeat tho - I would be VERY cautious to take this boat on the sea. Sea conditions can change suddenly, and I don't think this boat was designed to handle much more than another craft's wake - so if you are going to take her out to sea make sure you fill that keel with something heavy.

Kind Regards

Grant

Thanks for that Grant. Maybe I should have come on here BEFORE buying the boat. Ah well.
I only expect though, to be using her on calm days during the summer, and then I imagine I will only be going up and down the coast a small distance.

I must say though, the day we brought her from Douglas to Castletown, she handled really well. We took it easy and got to the visitors mooring in just under two hours before taking her into the harbour when there was enough water!

Thanks - I only put UK as it's easier when buying things off the Internet! Changed it now for ya!

Excellent! Don't want to tar the IOM with messy UK politics. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
