What is best water filter for onboard drinking water ?

A water treatment plant on a private water supply would use a UV light to kill nasties. Is such a thing available for boats or caravans?

sorry, but why do you guys buy such filters and you don't fit a Reverse Osmosis kit for around 250euro with 3yrs worth of filters in the deal?
I have it at home (no power needed) and it's brilliant makes the v.hard and frankly undrinkable tap water at home tasting really good.
Only downside is that they have the volume of about 8 1.5lt water bottles, but they can fit in a locker no problem. Three filters (two different micron measurements, one that removes chlorine then the reverse osmosis membrane and then the final filter adding some needed ingredients (sorry don't know the en terms for them)

I need to get replacement filters and recall someone posting another distributer. I don't think purewateronline.co.uk are active now. I also have a seagull system at home. I need these filters :

- purification cartridge (RS-1SG, part number 788000)
- scale control cartridge (SC-1SG, part number 788055) [higher flow rate for home]

Anyone got any suggestions in addition to Novaleisure I have found but awaiting costs.

Cheers

I've bought two of those as a replacement filter for the Seagull.

I found that they restricted the flow too much for my 25psi system. I think they might be OK with a 40psi system.

In the end I switched from Seagull to a standard 10" filter using a Pentex filter at £15 a pop. Big saving and the water tastes fine. This particular filter was recommended by forum member Thinwater who has done a lot of research into filters. A forum search should bring the relevant thread up.
This looks like it will do the trick, not original but seller has good feedback

I just use it out of the tank ( other than Cala Dor )

Why not just fit a carbon filter from eBay in kitchen tap flow. I can’t really see the point of a separate tap on a boat. You are not using so much water that the filters will wear that much faster.

You need a filter that is cheap and easily available.

Annoyingly my boat came with a large Seagull water purification system plumbed into the whole water supply - so you're showering in water that's purified to within 1 micron! And to add insult to injury, the £500, 1 micron filter only lasts for around 10k litres, less than a season! They also do a less fine version which lasts for around 100k litres ( http://www.purewateronline.co.uk/100500-AP-7-Module.html ) so that's what I've just ordered. In reality (unlike the 1 micron version) this less fine filter is probably no different from the much cheaper carbon type filter you suggest J. Will definitely be having a re-think before I fork out another £500 for a Seagull filter...

Purewateronline were active two weeks ago when I bought a replacement filter (for the princely sum of £514 plus delivery :encouragement: ) - the chap there is called Harald and email address is sales@purewateronline.co.uk

I contacted Harald and bought one of each for £85 and £95. Harald was the chap that sold me the Seagull 3 years ago. Delivery expected tomorrow. Not sure why you paid £514 !! I said I had problems contacting him but he assures me the company has continued to operate as normal.

Cheers

For that price I would want water turned into gin and tonic.

If you look at post #29 you'll see that it's for a large filter that serves the whole boat - am far from convinced it's worth it and think I'll find an alternative solution for next year!

Ah sorry for any misquote but thanks again for updated info. I got 2 seasons out of mine which brought operational price down. For drinking water usage I think £45 a season ok compared to buying and or lugging litre bottles of water.
