What is a TSDMY?

Twin Screw Displacement Motor Yacht.
Not exactly a widespread wording (and arguably not very accurate), but I've seen it used occasionally...

PS: LOL, see? MM heard a slightly different version... :D

Yup but MUCH more common is TSDY which has been around for decades. If it is twin screw the M is superfluous.

:o:o:o I stand corrected. :)
No need for the embarrassment emoticon, MM.
My comment was because I wasn't sure that my version was more correct than yours - assuming that there is such thing a "correct" version...
...as the comment from AA proves! :encouragement:

Thanks MM (the other one!). I was actually quite surprised to read the question as it's not an acronym I've seen used for a long time. I'm more than happy to say there is more than one meaning if it hides my ignorance. :)

Would you agree it tends to be used to describe boats above a certain size? Or age?
Generally above say 36ft ish? Or if they are twin screw and displacement with some accommodation, do they automatically qualify under that description?

And how would you define "Gentleman's motor yacht" by comparison?

Appreciating that these things perhaps have no formal definition I am interested in how everyone perceives the term when they hear it.

Very frankly speaking, I tend to not rely on any of these definitions, for the very simple reason that most folks use them according to whatever they have in mind and/or they believe that the term conveys.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a modern "trawler" advertised as a Gentleman's MY, if the seller believes that this gives him a better chance to find a punter... :D

Trevor, I am surprised you have the neck to mention those acronims!

Hot fog is my background.....
I did my AMCs on a steam poof's gay funneller ! Even punched a sprayer (once) and blew soot too !

Anyway you Steam Queen's I thought were always looking for the Golden Rivet, and generally finding it.

Look at 60's and 70's MBY and you'll see it is definitely and unequivocally 'Twin screw diesel yacht'. I had an SSDC - single screw diesel cruiser - had it on my boating tee shirt! What a kn*b,!!!:ambivalence:
