What if they start charging for GPS. OK it's unlikely that they'll bother with that system but we've got all of these new ones coming on stream. GPS won't last for ever and whoever thought they'd pay to drive in London or be watched by CCTV or fined by remote control.

It's just a thought.

The reason we are not forced to pay for GPS as far as I understand is down to American Federal Law. The same reason their charts and tide tables are available in the public domain for down load.

If 'tax dollars' have been spent to abtain data or in this case put sats in space for the USA mil. Then they cannot charge the American public again to use them, I guess it would be too difficult to then try to set charges worldwide if the homelands have the info for free.

Unlike our shower who charge us for something we have already paid for and also believe they own the copyright for tide data. In no other business is data allowed to be copyrighted. How can our Govn own what time the bloody water comes in, I mean, I guess next they will make us pay premiums for looking at our watches.

Show me the queue so I can pay for the euro sat system......../forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Is it a big deal?

Wasn't there a suggestion early on that GPS receivers would be licenced?

We could go back to sextants but I expect NASA will be licensing Mars from now on.

What you guys need.....

...is a relaxing recreational pursuit like sailing.

This paranoia is generate by a refusal to come to terms with tax increases.

Our next prime minister Odd Gordy Brown knows that he is a dead man if he changes the numbers 23 and 40 so any other chances to impose a modern day window tax are grasped with vigour.

Just heard on the BBC that legal aid is now only for the church mouse poor. A more sensible remedy would be control on lawyers' fees, but then since most of our MPs are earning a good bit on the side as lawyers of one kind or another, not much chance of that.

A church mouse speaks ...

squeak ... clears throat ... hands in supplicant mode ... the Very Reverend Rodent-Blair wishes to point out that the life of a pauper in CofE (Cantab division) ecclesiastical surroundings is not as you might imagine ..... sometimes the Blunkett-Mouse rolls us a spliff or the Mandelson-Mouse introduces us to his gay friends. its jolly good if blunkett-mouse turns up at mandelson-mouse parties. and as a special treat Brown-Mouse gives us some pocket money especially if we clear up any WMD (white-mouse-droppings) shit from the vestry floor before Rev Rodent-Blair dossiers it ....
