What has happened to Universal Marina?

This is the ideal time to apply for Planning Permission for houses, if you have a Brownfield site. (green belt or otherwise)
The government has instructed Local Authorities to prepare a list of Brownfield Sites and many have not complied

The relevant local councils housing plan here is in tatters, the owners ( or anyone for that matter with a bit of land ) simply have to put in an application then when turned down locally get it granted on appeal. Planning applications going in all over the borough, now would be ideal as I advised a client who has been trying for permission for 20 years

We have now noticed that Universal has put up their prices and withdrawn the summer only drystack option, so you have to stay for a year. This means they are no longer cheaper than Premier which was the incentive previously. As Premier offer discounted fuel and inclusive Sea Start, I would suspect that there will be a number of Universal boats that were on the 6 month option looking to move elsewhere like we have.
Perhaps they are playing the "its not longer cost effective, we need to close the facility and re-develop it into something else" game, I've seen it played so many times before. Good, profitable businesses closed just because it did not suit the boards long term plan.

The problem that Universal would have with planning for houses is access, the road is single lane, the only reason they can operate as they are is an existing use from pre war days for the site, now it maybe possible to use the lane that used to go down to Crableck and create a one way system, but there are a lot of house owners on both lanes that would require paying off.
