What happened to the For Sale Forum? I have 2x Sonic 100's for sale !!

I don’t want to appear rude or churlish because I (as a known mod) didn’t have anything to do with anyone’s access being denied. (It’s not in the volunteer mod privileges) but were these things you wanted to sell more than £400 by any chance? Did you try to post them for sale more than once? The admin staff get hacked off with people not reading the terms and conditions of the For Sale forum so I’ll leave you to guess what happens next.

No, I have not tried to post them at all - I cannot see the For Sale tab to actually sell anything. I remember about the £400 limit now you have reminded me (but it was on the Forum Description anyway so I would have remembered then - if i could even see the Forum).

However if one has spent one's career interpreting the doings and sayings of an imaginary friend in the sky, I'd imagine it seems a normal way of working.

What a bizarre post. Please feel free to have a dig at my professional life with your rather snide remark. I suggest that it doesn't reflect well on you.

Perhaps you might like to remember that I neither make the rules for these forums nor do I have any real influence over the rules that apply to these forums. I don't ban people and I don't apply sanctions. There is a group of mods (of which I am one) who discuss controversial moderation issues in the background with the Admin team before the Admin team either apply our suggestions or give them a stiff ignoring. (We actually all get on pretty well and although we don't always agree, we have an unwritten rule that if a majority agree, the minority accede.)

This thread is degenerating into the reason why we try to never discuss moderation in the open. It's completely impossible to please everyone and people all have their own interpretation and bright ideas. When new mods are brought in (There have been a few changes over the years.) the new mods often discover that many of their bright ideas that often either aren't legal or are impossible to implement. Like so many things in life, it all seems so simple from the outside. Bit like being elected to Parliament etc - you think you're going to change the world and then discover its a bit more complicated than you realised.

Interestingly, I have tried to follow a link from google (I am looking for a service / installation manual for the older analogue autohelm 3000 with dial-type-compass) and get the same info regarding not having permissions, yet can see and read all the other forums..
The link is :- http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?424589-Autohelm-3000-Installation-and-instruction-book

Can anyone else follow it?

Steve, I have no idea why you can't see the For Sale Forums. You can't advertise your drives on them (obviously) nor can you link to them on eBay (I found them listed there) but I'll enquire with Admin why you seem to have lost your access. It might be a glitch or a mistake or I've no idea...

If you haven't posted anything over £400 I would think it is more likely to be a technical glitch

Yes can see it but it is from 2015

Thanks John. Does seem a bit strange that i cannot see either the For Sale Or wanted Forums and also the old message I shared a link about !

I've just sent you the pm explaining and perhaps you'd like to edit out your references to your parts for sale. I'm sure they're wonderful but you're effectively advertising them (as you know!)

Sorry - I assumed the last bit of the message about the sterndrives would be accepted as it was meant, tongue in cheek. I will edit it out then.
Regards, Stephen

I posted 1 thing - never received a warning or a request to remove/reduce.
In fact I never received any explanation or advice I had been removed from accessing the for same forum.

I only found out when I went to remove my item.

Admin moves in a mysterious way his wonders to perform,

Still not heard a thing from Admin.
At least John Morris has been kind enough to offer an explanation though it would seem someone thinks I am an ebay business account seller with huge feedback on ebay - i pointed out the inaccuracies (30 feedback, private seller and only 11 items for sale, only 4 of which are Marine related !!) but still no replies.
Since I am not benefiting from anything on this website, I have now cancelled my DD for the Magazine.
After all, it was only an interesting read and anything technical featured could easily be found on the internet anyway. !
"Shooting oneself in the foot" springs to mind !

This assumes of course that the forums are seen as having some value, rather than just being a nuisance.

I don't think they are - I think IPC just see the forums as a nuisance that consumes moderation and compute resources whilst generating hardly any revenue.

It's a stunning failure of imagination in a digital age, given the average demographics of the people that post here.
Many platforms spend vast resources trying to get the "right" people onto their platform.
IPC actually have many of the right people under their noses, but they have no idea what to do with them.

Stephen, patience is a virtue. We’d just persuaded the admin that you’re kosher and I’m surprised you haven’t got your full access back yet. I’ll chase Admin up again (us lowly mods don’t have the right access rights to alter who gets access to what boards; I can move posts and merge things and delete things but we’re not trusted to do much more.)
