It certainley doesn't! A shame that Big Bro feels threatened. Perhaps he could own up and say why?

Why on earth should ybw allow a competitive forum to advertise itself free here?

It was a silly stunt and the thread quite rightly deserved to get pulled

As I see it it's fair competition and not against this forum rules, anyway other things are advertised free here!! Do you or I pay to come on here NO!

Do you see a BMW car dealer with a ford car dealers poster in his show room, They spend time and money on maintaining and trying to keep this site safe and informative. If you want to adervertize do it the same as others, in magazines or on tv.

>>it's fair competition and not against this forum rules<<

You didn't read this sites terms and conditions then:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.3 You agree that you will not use the Web Site or any of the Web Site Services as follows:

• for any purposes connected to any business, including sending any unsolicited advertisements or promotional material
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The forum that was being advertised is run by a powerboat training school in Christchurch, and advertises it's services at the top of the page, with the forum moderator having the school website url as part of his profile. That's 'connected to any business' in my mind. And the post advertising it was unsolicited advertising.
QED it was against this forum rules, and is a forum in direct competition to this one.

What does the fact that we don't pay to come on here have to do with it? There are still forum rules. I think I do pay to come on here anyway, as I subscribe to 4 of the YBW magazines that sponsor this site.

Answer

I left it alone until I saw the first report from a user that suggested it was soliciting strange questions, such as date of birth. At that point I suspected a commercial motive and canned it. Perfectly within my right to do...not afraid of competition but we haven't built this website up by spamming other forums and I don't see why we should tolerate the same.
