What Hand Held

Hi Haydn

Have always used Icom, had a IC-M3Euro which I had problems with after 4 years it stopped charging even when new batteries were fitted.
Also used a IC-M21 as a spare.
Last year bought a IC-M71 which is realy impressive, good battery life and easy to use and not bad reception either, and its a little smaller than the previous Icom,

I've had both Icom and the Standard Horizon.

Without a doubt the Standard Horizon wins.

I had two Icoms which simply fell apart after three years - the plastic base for the screws just wasnt strong enough to hold them together. On the other hand the Standard Horizon is built like a brick ?hit house.

Both had similar sound quality though.

I've got 2 icoms M71 and they work fine, but a big compliaint is the 1973 technology battery charger. It comes with lots of instructions telling you to switch it off if the batteries have reached full charge, else you kill them. I'd much prefer a battery charger that you can switch on and forget, or at least leave overnight. With the icom i have to make a reminder on an alarm clock to switch the blimmin charger off, grrr.
 
Just been browsing for dsc/vhf handhelds, spotted a uniden mystic, now why would a submersible floating dsc handheld with built in gps and plotter features with waypoint/route navigation be discontinued???
Sounds bloody great or were they crap?
