I am refurbing my speedboat over the winter and one of the things i have planned is to fit some sort of electrical system for horn, nav lights, stereo etc. my boat hasnt got a single dial on it. I see other boats with 10 or so dials on the dash... What are all these for? Any that are worth fitting on mine? Whats the easiest way to fit a speedo?

Can it be any rev counter or does it have to be specific to my engine? And depth... How does that work? Im assuming you need to fit some sort of sensor to the bottom of your boat?

Easy way for speed and depth would be Raymarine ST40 tri data (or similar) with a transom mounted tranducer. The depth can become less accurate as your speed increases because the faster that you travel the more air bubbles appear in the water making the tranducer less effective. With a Rev counter you dont say whether your engine is an inboard or an outboard which will make a significant difference.

Sorry its an outboard. Suzuki dt85. How much would one of them units your on about cost?

Not cheap I'm afraid. Firstly the ST40 Bi data (not Tridata as I said before) is in the region of £140 and the ST69 compatible transducer will be around £85. I'd start looking on Amazon or perhaps e-bay. Hopefully, someone else on this forum can give you some idea of attaching a rev counter to your outboard as I do not know very much about them.

If your outboard is 4 stroke, then you will probably need revs, temp, oil pressure, depth and speed. Yu might use a lamp for charge on and off. For a 2 stroke delete the oil presure.

For depth, I use a "Hawkeye DF1000D" with transom transducer (sensor) and can't complain. I use it on my 65 mph Phantom 21 and am impressed with how it keeps up at speed. It's good to have a water pressure gauge on an outboard, as you can't see the pee pipe when moving at speed.
