Good morning all,

We currently have 2 x 4.5kg Calor gas cylinders for the cooker/hob. Heading to the Caribbean in the next few months and wonder what the best gas cylinders to have for use there are?

The current 4.5kg Calor ? Camping gaz?

Thanks

Is it possible to buy composite Calor Gas bottles, rather than steel bottles?
If so, then they would be much better.
Here in Barbados we can buy 10 kg Rubis (they used to be Texaco) composite gas bottles, but these would be way too big for your gas locker.

From what I've seen, Stingo is bang on. Most places will fill any old bottle with any old gas. Cooking gas.

Top tip. Pit stop in Mindelo, Cape Verdes. From the marina, head ashore on long pier and alter to starboard. Walk past square and supermarket. A bit further along is a place on the inboard side that sells manky full bottles with gas very cheap. No swap required. Later you can palm these off for refilling whilst hanging on to your decent ones.

Enjoy!

if still in the UK then homebase used to do 10Kg bottles at a decent deposit (2 onboard) , then forget to return...
Many pluses, don't rust, see how much gas is left..
After that it's a long way and many countries before the Caribbean. Get transfer kit then borrow any old local bottle if (when) no where will refill yours
Marine Gas Cylinder Adaptor Fitting Kit

Might be worth a "annex M " marine regulator, gas you'll get could be mix of propane/butane, you won't know for sure.

Homebase do 5 kg bottles as well. Mine fits in the locker whereas a 10 kg would be too big.

More complete advice on causing far affield can be found at https://www.theca.org.uk/rats/gas-advice (and, if not a already CA member, you'll soon recover the cost if voyaging far afield).
Also Ocean Cruising Club. 30% off in many marinas onroute to Caribbean

We are already in gran canaria see o discount here not really applicable, what about Caribbean marinas for discount?
There are so few in the Caribbean. Most people anchor. We have only been in to a marina once because I needed to go into hospital. I don't think there are discounts anyway in the Caribbean. If you are heading up the East coast of US then many good reasons to join OCC. Free berths, moorings, etc
