Tee hee!

I must say I've been enjoying the opinions that your recent threads have prompted. One thing I've spotted in here is that the most heated exchanges are often about risk - both perception of risk and attitude to it. One boater is happy with something, another thinks you're totally mad to go to sea. Gas cookers. Petrol engines. Solid fuel heaters. Anchors. Liferafts. Lifejackets. Harnesses. Anchor lights. I seem to recall a very heated thread a while back on how much equipment is needed to cross the channel - some wouldn't even consider Dover/Calais in fair conditions without liferaft, danbuoy, three GPS, EPIRB, PLBs. Others are happy to dash across in good conditions with VHF, lifejacket and flares.

For what it's worth (to cross threads), I think you're right not to attempt your first fibreglass job on a below-waterline skin fitting. Blanking plate is easier to understand, and regarded by many as an acceptable risk.
