What fish were they catching?

I was anchored off the cliffs just to the south of Cawsand Bay beach last week and was suprised to hear 'plops' around the boat. It turned out these were coming from the spinners being cast out by people fishing from the rocks that were landing just around us.
They were catching loads of fish - they didnt look like Mackerel, so what would they have been catching and what sort of spinner would they be using?

Lucky devils. Bass move in with the tide to feed on all the little beasties floating off the seaweed. Spinning is cheating. Fly is the sporting way to go.

Dunno the area, but we used to catch lots of Pollock off rocks in West Wales.
