What exterior upholstery fabric?

At SIBS, I spotted a new fabric from Silvertex.
Much softer than their usual PCV range.
It is called "Hitch"
It has a much softer feel - less likely to stick to bare skin.

We will need to change all ours sometime.
We still have the old PVC (pre Movida which I believe is the Princess name for Silvertex).
Each year, we say that we must get new covers but at the end of the season, we clean them and feed the PVC and each season, we say that they will last another.

That said, we had some samples sent from a guy we met at SIBs (HMS Upholstry).
I smeared some sun lotion, olive oil on them and made a mark with a Biro pen.
After cleaning with soap and water, there was a slight distortion in the fabric but it has since flattened out.
The sun lotion and oil washed out.
The pen mark is mostly (85%) out but IMO, it would not have come out on Sunbrella.
With a lot of scrubbing, it would probably have come out on the old PVC.
This new "Hitch" fabric might be the ultimate fabric that we are looking for.
Something that is soft on the skin but washable.
They do a range of colours.
I think this is definitely worth a try sometime.

In the meantime, we will be sticking (literally) to our old PVC.
Well - for next season anyway.

What do you feed the Pvc with Mike?

A few years ago, GSL (of this forum) gave me some Autoglym leather cleaner.
It worked so well that I've been buying it it since.
The actual product that I've been using is Autoglym Leather and Trim Conditioner.
But is seems that they don't make this any more.
Actually, you have reminded me that I need some more so I will probably be buying the Autoglym Leather Care Balm instead.
IMO, it just needs something to moisten the fabric and keep it soft.
We apply thick coating at the end of the season before storing the cushions in the crews quarters.

Here's a video of the product from the Autoglym website.

I think that is the one that looks like fabric.

Princess use it everywhere.

I was concerned that it would now last, and the view of someone in this context i trust but i don't want to mention was the same.

We may of course both be wrong ... it just didn't look like it would weather well!

This is the way I see it.
Silvertex comes from Spradling.
Princess call theirs "Movida"
Movida isn't this "Hitch" fabric that I saw at SIBS.
Thats why I was interested.

At the moment, when we do recover, Movida/Silvertex is the most likely product for us to use.
However, I am tempted with this "Hitch fabric.
The Hitch white colour is a slightly "off white" which might reduce the glare.
Our cushion colours are essentially white with a horizontal blue stripe in the backs - the Hitch blue is a bit dark but I think it would work.
This is a link to th Hitch product:-

But the colour of the sample that I have is called Iceburg (HIT-8962) which isn't listed on the website.

Princess' Movida white has a silvery look to it.
I suspect that the "Ice" product on this link is the Princess Movida but I may be wrong:-

They changed the name but the product is the same

GL

Thanks. I've actually got some of that on board so will give it a go when I'm on the boat for New Year. I'm a bit sceptical that it can penetrate a plastic type material but there's no harm in trying.

Incidentally GL, we should meet up for a beer some time as I'm spitting distance from where you live!

Fairline use Movida as well - I have just had mine done using Movida Beige which seems popular ( we had it on the 65 and loads of other have the same colour .... so i just joined in!)

It is a Silvertex fabric.

It is quite fabric like, has ridges so you body can breath a bit but is still vinyl albeit nicely textured.

Wears well.

Mine was done by MJ who have the patterns. They did the fly ( seating area, seat backs and the sunbathing area - large - around the helm and the sunbed to the right of the upper helm) , redesigned cockpit to be more sofa like as I didn't like the original ( I have seen it but not on the boat!) coach roof cushions to include headrests, and also the William Rib so a complete set. That lot excluding the helm seats which I am replacing was £3500 ( new helm seats from Fairline are another £3.2k)

That was half the best Mallorca price i could get. I then had to fit foam and poppers etc myself ( which is a bigger job than you might imagine!)

Just leave it on over the winter months - after 10 years of using this stuff, I'm sure it works.

And your two boats are close to each other as well.
