Hi,

I know most marine engines start life as a automotive block and are "modified" for marine use. I know petrols often start as GM blocks.

Does anyone know what engine the above is based on??

Thanks in advance

I think its a yanmar unit, I have serviced a few ,it doesn't look like a kubota for sure.

I've a 4JH-2BE. I believe it is based on a Yanmar tractor engine. I think Yanmar are mainly an agricultural engine seller in some parts of the world, most noticeably the US. However I've been told a number of times that Yanmar filters are usually exactly the same as Honda filters (but not always), so there may be a link there.

Not based on an automotive engine, but as said made by Yanmar and also used in industrial and agricultural applications.
